What's the big deal about Fiber?

Fiber optics today is the best type of technology to provide Internet service. Fiber is a buzzword for those that do not have it but also the most expensive way to provide service. Fiber is the best because it can deliver very fast synchronous download and upload speeds and is the most reliable. Fiber is also the best when it comes to latency, which is the time it takes to send information.  When it comes to latency, the lower the number the better, and typically fiber can produce latency at 17 milliseconds (ms) or quicker.  Fiber is typically a dedicated connection to every home or business and does not have its bandwidth shared between other subscribers within a service group.

Is Fiber better than 5G?

In the technology world, Fiber is still king, and if you’re not expanding communication services by deploying Fiber, you’re most likely falling behind. Now some might ask about 5G, but what many don’t understand is 5G CAN’T WORK WITHOUT FIBER. Secondly, when GBT brings Fiber to a home or business, you are essentially getting 10G-like technology at your door! Fiber gives GBT’s customers a future-proof network that can provide the fastest speeds with the best reliability in the world!

How do I know if I can get GBT’s Fiber Service?

By signing up to show your interest, GBT will notify you and keep you updated with construction and installation progress. To sign-up, click here enter in your address, fill out the contact information and you are all set! *You are not obligated to take GBT service if you sign-up it.

We have divided the City of Larned into 8 Fiber Zones. We are building 2 fiber zones in 2022, the Southwest & West Fiber zones and will decide which zone/s to build in 2023 depending on which fiber zone has the most interest. If you don’t live in the southwest or west fiber zones, talk to your neighbors about signing up and showing their interest so your zone will be next to get fiber in 2023.

What zones are being built first?

In 2018, GBT brought fiber to many of the businesses in Larned. With the current fiber infrastructure that is in place, GBT could start providing service to these two zones the quickest.

Will I have to pay for construction if I want fiber at my house?

If your home or business is in a fiber zone where construction is planned, you will not have to pay anything for the Fiber service to be brought to your premise, if you give GBT permission during the initial construction phase. If you choose to not give GBT permission to place a fiber drop to your home or business during initial construction, and then decide you want fiber after initial construction has been completed, you will be subject to Fiber Installation Charges.

If I allow GBT to place a fiber drop at my house, do I have to take service?

GBT would like everyone to experience our amazing Fiber and the customer service that goes along with it, but we understand some homes might be in contracts with their current provider. There is no obligation to take GBT service if you allow us to bring a fiber drop to your home!
